There's an
old saying, "When a person dies, a library is
lost."
We don't
want that to happen to us. We must not let what we
have learned disappear. We want to be able to pass
it on to those who come after us. To feel that our
lives had a purpose. We do that through oral
histories, ethical wills and letters, autobiographies,
volunteering, storytelling, inter-generational work and
mentoring. And, before we do the work of others, we
must do our own "inner work."
Spiritual
Eldering™ and Age-ing to Sage-ing™ is rooted in modern
psychology and traditional religious/spiritual
sources. The work is trans-denominational -
for people of all faiths and beliefs - uniting elders in
service to themselves, the community and the planet.
Our main focus is
nourishing ourselves physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially
and spiritually. We promote working to keep our bodies active
and healthy, at whatever level that means for us. We search for
the emotional balance within ourselves. We keep ourselves
"sharp" mentally - reading, discussing, learning and
creating. Although you can participate alone, keeping connected
to family, friends and the community makes this more productive.
We encourage people to take time to develop our contemplative skills -
writing for ourselves and others; meditating and finding spiritual
intimacy.
